Gamamusica Ensemble
We are an amateur string orchestra in Tsukuba.
A string ensemble in Tsukuba City for 40 years
Gamamusica Ensemble's roots go back to 1975. Several string instrument enthusiasts from a research institute in Tsukuba City joined and began their musical activities. In the beginning, the ensemble rented an empty classroom in a nearby school, but soon after, the Takezono Community Center was established in the Takezono area of Sakura-mura (now つくば市竹園交流センター), which has become the ensemble's regular rehearsal place.
In the more than 40 years since its establishment, the members have changed significantly, and the size and structure of the group have changed little by little.
In the past, joint concerts were held several times a year in Tsukuba Science City. The "Sakura-mura Cultural Festival" was held every fall at Nova Hall, and the "Gakuen-toshi Concert" was held several times a year at the University of Tsukuba's University Hall. At these concerts, music-related circles active in the area gathered together and presented their performances. At that time, the Gamamusica Ensemble's main activity was to perform at these joint concerts.
In the 1990s, however, the ensemble began to give regular concerts independently. Today, the main activity of Gamamusica Ensemble is the subscription concerts, which are held twice a year in principle.
Around 2000, two groups, the "Tsuki" group and the "Hoshi" group, were established within the framework of Gamamusica, and both groups perform independently and jointly (see "Current Activities" page).
Over time, the circumstances surrounding the Gamamusica Ensemble have changed, but the basic principle that members who love music can enjoy chamber music and string ensembles without difficulty has stayed the same.
